First, you're going to want to wait a few months to give or take until the wet season when the rivers are higher and food is more plentiful, so the piranhas aren't as hungry. Also, piranas sleep at night, so if you can get across at night you might save yourself. Still, piranas are actually not as bloodthirsty as most people believe. Yes, they strip you down to your bones, but they normally do not attack humans. They have to be starving, and it would take 300-500 of them to do so. Piranas are attracted to blood and noise, so don't bleed or make lots of noises when you cross, and you should be fine.
