Eric Liddel

Eric Liddel is most well known for refusing to run on Sunday in the Olympic Games, giving up an almost guaranteed gold medal, and running instead in the 400-meter dash, where he even though he was the least favored to win got gold. However, his life after his career as a runner si the most interesting, after getting married and having two children, the family moved to China to become missionaries. After World War II broke out it became too dangerous and Eric sent his family to live in Canada with his wife's parents. He planned to meet up with them a year later but never did.
