The battle of Midway was finally over. The Japanese had sent planes against the island, and the American carriers had sent places against the Japanese fleet. The battle resulted in one American carrier being crippled and several Japanese carriers mangled or sunk. Midway remained in American hands. The only scare came from a Japanese sub that shelled midway ineffectively before slinking away. It turned out that in the confusion the Japanese commanders had forgotten to recall the sub, and nothing else came.
