Yesterday's sermon was preached by Christopher Engelsma at Covenant URC. The text was Genesis 3:17, a continuation of the series in Genesis. This chapter relates the story of the Fall and the curse. Last week we focused on the curse on women and this week we focused on the affliction on men. The curse on men involves having to work and labor and the labor will be hard and exhausting, or as our text puts it full of thorns and briars. However, work was not always like this. Work existed before the fall, and was an important part of pre-fall life. The negative association work has earned in the modern day is only a result of the curse, and not because work is evil.
