Adam Smith and The Wealth of Nation

 Adam Smith came up with a theory that would come to be known as capitalism and published it in The Wealth of Nations. The book became an instant bestseller, despite many influential people hating it because it would take away all their power if implemented. However, capitalism elevated the position of the commoners and the peasants and paved the way for the freedom of people like the serfs in Russia, who essentially were slaves.
