Back in Darwin's day, when his theory of evolution gained steam and helped spawn the atheist movement that is so prevalent today, life seemed much simpler. People didn't really know about cells and how they worked. They thought a human egg sack was just a lump of protein, but in reality, it's an incredibly complex organ. Thus, it did make more sense that the world could've evolved from a basic organism, but we know now that the world is far from basic. In fact, the world is head-spinningly complex that we've barely managed to scratch the surface of how it works.
