Competition between the craft guilds in the cities and the crafts in the rural areas existed in the middle ages. In the Low Lands, it came to violence, with the guild members leaving the city to roam the countryside, weavers going as far as destroying looms and giving the local weavers a few bruises didn't stop until the farmer decided to give what they got. After that, there was an acknowledgment of the rural crafters, but it was tense.
