Darwin and Marx were contemporaries, and both seemed to be very impressed with the other's political and biological theories. Especially Marx, who reportedly talked about only Darwin and his theory for six months after attending a series of lectures on the subjects. He even went as far as sending his books to Darwin and asking if he would join the Communist Party, but Darwin refrained from this saying that it would anger his relatives, as he had already spoken out against religion, which he and Marx were both passionate about destroying.
