Bonds are different from stocks. Instead of giving you a share in the company, bonds are simply a loan to a certain company that they will payback. For example, I give a thousand dollars to Starbucks so they can open new coffee shops. Starbucks in return promises to pay me back over time, with interest. This way, Starbucks makes money because they earn profits off of their new shops and I make money because I'm getting more money then I gave Starbucks.
