Why Do People Play Games?

Games have been part of most cultures for a long time. The Egyptians played a board game called Senet along with other games, and during the medieval ages, Chess was widely played among the knights and nobles. In the modern-day, board games are still popular. In Germany board game championships are big events. Humans have creative minds, and it didn't take long for games on computers to come out. These games are widely played, likely because of how easy they are to get and play. Entire companies, such as Nintendo and Sega, have become rich selling games to people. But why do people like to play games so much? In a utilitarian way of thinking they are a waste of time. They do nothing to better your circumstances and sometimes can even make them worse.

The first games were played with other people. People played against each other, and if you google "most popular computer games" you'll see that nearly all of them are multiplayer games. PUBG (PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds), Fortnite, Minecraft, League of Legends, Overwatch, Among Us, Rocket League, Call of Duty: Warzone, and others are all designed out to be played with other people. Games that you don't play with others are almost always not as popular as games where you can (I mean how many single-player board games have you heard?). My theory is that people play games because it's a way to relate to other people. God created humans to want to be with others, and yes, play games with others.
