Pixilart.com is a pixel art editor that is web-based, with no download necessary. I've used it multiple times for my own drawings and had some mixed opinions on it so I decided to write a review for it in this post.
The editor itself is simple enough, tools on the right side along with the currently selected color and options for layering, zoom, and some preselected colors on the left. The canvas is in the middle, and you can easily set the size of the canvas when you start and resize as you like during your session. It also has the options for animating below that you can export as a gif. It has all the normal tools you can expect from a pixel art editor, including line, eraser, pencil, plus a handy circle function, a rectangle function, select, text, etc. It also has a cool stamp function that lets you add lines to the canvas and redecorate kind of like a color by number and a pixel-perfect function in the settings. The interface as a whole is clean and easy to use, most of the time. I found the zoom function to be extremely awkward using a touchpad. I found the gif editor also awkward and difficult to use. The biggest plus this has is that it allows you to share your art with a community, which has some truly awe-inspiring pieces. Thus, it has been geared much more towards making portraits then it has been to making game art, which is what I usually make. You might have more success then I did with this, but personally I didn't find it satisfactory in this regard. However, if you're making a portrait, then I would totally recommend it. I have tried making portraits in the past and wish I had used this. Therefore,
Pros
- Easy to use interface.
- Lots of very useful tools.
- Very good for portraits.
- Awkward to use on a laptop.
- Not very good for animation.
I'm not sure whether to give this a thumbs up or a thumbs down, so I won't give it either XD, just know it's good for portraits and not game art.
