William Wilberforce

 Wi9lliam Wilberforce wanted to abolish the slave trade in England. As good and common sense as this sounds today, back in Wilberforce's time it was almost a laughable goal. A lot of politicians and influential wealthy people made a lot of money off of the slave trade, and on top of that, the nation was corrupted with an ideology that said the wealthy and powerful were blessed by good and the poor and weak were cursed by Gods, so why should you help the suffering? Wilberforce knew that in order to abolish slavery he first would have to change the mindset of the people. This seems like an impossible task, but thanks to Wilberforce's influence, the western world now believes it is the duty of the wealthy to help the less fortunate.
