George Washington's greatest achievenment was not somehow pulling together a bunch of ragtag, undersupplied, underfunded, outgunned, and outmanned colonists into an army that could challenge the most powerful fighting force in the world, but turning down power. After the Revolution was over, many assumed George Washington would take power for himself. After all, every other military uprising had resulted in the same, why would this be any different? George Washinton not only didn't take power for himself, he refused it when other attempted to foist it on him. He served four years as president, reluctantly served a second, before retiring to his mansion. The problem of slavery plagued him, and he had passed pro-slavery bills while president, but it seems he later changed his mind on the issue, not only freeing all of his slaves upon his death but giving the elderly ones a pension to live off of and the younger ones an education.
