The media siezed on the story of Clarence Thomas's sexual misconduct and began to spread it far and wide, portraying Anita Hill as a religious, moral, young woman in good standing, despite the fact that when she worked at the EEOC nobody liked her. Her story was full of holes, and Thomas's allies and friends knew it wouldn't stand up in anybody with reason looked at it, but it didn't matter. All that mattered to the people spreading the falsehood was that Thomas be struck down because he had gotten out of place.
