When the Japanese main body, including the precious carriers, was found by a scouting PBY, the American carriers and the forces located on Midway were thrown into action only four minutes after receiving the transmission. Midway was prepped to be bombed by approaching Japanese planes and the American carriers launched fighters to counterattack the bombers. On midway, the radarmen watched the two groups of blips converged as they sheltered in the dugouts, waiting for the storm.
