Aftermath of Midway

After the battle of Midway was all said and done, both sides celebrated a victory. A Japanese journalist recounts the story of hearing the news that MIdway had been fought and won and celebrating with young, nieve officers in his hotel. However, he deeply suspected that the reports were untrue, as he could not find the exact details. He returned to his room and turned on the radio to an American station, and found them reporting a victory too! At first, he thought it was just propaganda until the newscaster began relating the names of sunken ships and carriers. The Yamato, the pride and jewel of the Japanese navy, had been sunk, with Japan's hopes for victory.
