Colonialism ruined the lives of thousands and yet also uplifted the lives of thousands. Its defenders point out that the natives of the places colonized benefitted from the construction of hospitals, aqueducts, and access to newer technologies such as guns, plows, and many other things. Its critics point out that the natives often paid for these amenities that they didn't ask for with their own blood and money, and that often times these things were built for the benefit of the colonizer and not the colonized.
