Japanese Motor Industries

Japan has always been hostile to outsiders to one degree or another. Even after World War II, they couldn't stand having less industrial strength than the United States, especially in regard to car production. Japan had its own car companies, but they hadn't mastered the assembly line like Ford had, making Japanese cars up to 50% more expensive than American cars. What angered them, even more, was when Ford and other American companies built car plants in Japan. Japan restricted them, requiring that they be majority Japanese run and giving huge subsidies to Japanese car makers, essentially strangling the American companies until they choked to death. Reluctantly, the American companies left, leaving the Japanese companies to thrive.
