The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor was obviously a well-thought-out affair, and that meant that the admirals involved sent a spy to Pearl Harbor to learn as much as they could about the American navy's behavior and the defense at the base. The spy, posing as a Filipino, talked to sailors on leave to discover when the navy had the most ships parked in the harbor, how deep the water was, and also dove into the harbor at night to locate the anti-submarine net. His information helped the Japanese plan the attack. The leaders slated it for Sunday when most ships would be at rest. And so December 7, the date that will live in infamy, became the day that started the second great war for the most powerful country in the world.
