Darwinism contributed not only to the widespread racism and sexism of the last two centuries but also heavily influenced the early days of capitalism in America. This was the time when mega-wealthy businessmen basically controlled pretty much everything, and laborers were paid dirt because labor was so cheap. A quote from the time claims that shingles were cheaper than men. The businessmen that controlled America didn't even think this was wrong, because according to Darwinism, and particularly Darwin's disciple Howard Spencer, the strong would crush the weak anyway. It was just natural. Oddly, most of these men claimed to be Christians, although they skipped the whole "love your neighbor" part and tried to mix their ruthless and very unchristian Darwinist beliefs in with their supposed christianity.
