It's Christmas on the Bennet Farm, and with Gramps holed up inside because of his sickness, Bud has to do the chores. He feels like he is being rejected as a family after family after family of Bennet children and grandchildren arrive. When Gramps tells him to go out to a small house he has been building next to the chicken coop, Bud knows it is for him to live in. However, when he gets into it, he finds a purebred rooster and a few chickens, along with everything he needs to raise a flock. He knows that Gramps and Gran haven't rejected him.
