The Resistance is a book by Douglas Bond about the resistance in Vichy France during the time of World War II. A young B-17 pilot is shot down over France and lands on top of a woman named Aimee. Aimee and her siblings help them hide from the Germans, but when an attempt to escape backfires, they get stuck doing missions under the command of an English spy named Garret.
Negative Thoughts
The book has a lot of violence and some of these scenes have blood. Garret kills two unarmed German prisoners. One German Soldier gets beheaded by a trap the resistance set. At times, it seems like the story zooms way forward in time without us being told, which is annoying and makes it slightly confusing.
Positive Thoughts
There is a lot of talks from C. S. Lewis that the Resistance listens to on the radio, which leads them to discuss everything from communism to salvation in healthy ways. The book makes a firm stand against communism.
Conclusion
This book is a really good read. However, due to the amount of violence and the topics discussed in it I recommend that older children give it a read.
