Outlines of Church History

Soon several Christian societies were formed. One society was formed with the sole purpose of promoting Christian knowledge. It was formed by one clergy and four laymen. The society printed Bibles and prayer books, translated the Bible, and generally did everything they could to accomplish their aim. America requested a bishop, but the person they wanted to become bishop would not swear allegiance of the crown of England, so he was made bishop by the Scots and sent back to America.
