Outlines of Church HIstory

The Roman Catholic Church was indeed hemmed on all sides. Not only did they have to deal with the surging torrent of the Reformation they also had to deal with the Puritans, a new type, so to say, of Christianity. They desired to make everything pure, and labeled bishops, kneeling for Communion, and making the Sign of the Cross at baptism sinful. When they refused to sign some Articles Queen Elizabeth wanted them to sing so they could have a united Church, they refused, giving birth to the name, Non-Conformist.
