Outlines of Church History

Last post we saw how the Church was persecuted and nearly wiped out by Emperors such as Diocletian and Justin. In this chapter, we are going to see how the Church flourished under rulers that did not attempt to destroy, them, and how most of it was ultimately corrupted. It began after Diocletian fell, and Constantine rose to power. He allowed the churches to be rebuilt. All across the Roman Empire, the churches were built, monasteries were constructed, and all of the builders seemed to be vying to outdo each other in the magnificence of the earthly building. Over time, the true Church, that is the people, began to worship the Virgin, as well as the Divine Son. A Pope was elected to oversee the new "Christian" Church. What will become of it?
