New Saint Joseph Baltimore Catechism

This lesson was on the Sacrament of Penance. Let's stop right there, nowhere is the Sacrament of Penance mentioned in the Bible. Jesus gave us two Sacraments, Baptism and the Lord's Supper. It also has a list of things that you have to do before you can confess your sins that are controversial, including confessing them to the priest, doing the penance the priest prescribes, and making up our minds not sin again. The Bible tells us that we are fallen, and therefore cannot help doing sin. Does that mean we do it because we know we can't help it? No, we try not to do it to please God. Also, the Bible teaches only to confess public sins (i.e, stealing a large amount of property). Also, Jesus paid the price on the cross for ALL our sins, we do not need to do a penance, and will only be wearing ourselves out if we tried too. That was all for today, see you next time.
