Libertarians do not like that the government owns all the streets because the government is the ultimate evil so governments owning roads is evil. They think that all roads should be owned by private companies. However, charging people for using these roads would be very irksome, easy to cheat, and incredibly expensive for drivers, especially with gas prices the way they are. We can't go back to railways for travel, even this would probably be very expensive as well. Government-owned roads are free to use. The liberterians quickly would come back and say that they are not kept up well. However in most cases that I've seen the fault lies not in the government, but in the unions that the construction workers that the government hires are forced to serve under. These unions continually strike for higher wages, most of which are already ready very high. So what would be the best plan for roads? Getting rid of the unions, granted a difficult task. Even if there are other problems, most people are not going to vote to have to pay tons of money just to drive to work.
Govt controlled roads are free?? 😵
