Yesterday's sermon was preached by Reverand Chris Engelsma. The text was Isaiah 8:12 and was on fear. The text speaks about a period of political strife when Assyria had conquered Syria and was preparing to attack an alliance forged between Israel and various other surrounding countries. Judah did not join this alliance, knowing that Assyria would win (They did). The point was that Ahaz feared Assyria more than he feared the Lord. What Assyria and Israel should have feared was the Lord, and he would have protected them, but they abandoned him, and thus Assyria conquered Israel and besieged Jerusalem, but then Judah turned again to God and he sent an angel of death among the Assyrians, and they were forced to retreat.
