YouTube Music Review

YouTube Music is a music streaming service provided by, uh, YouTube. Google is basically canceling Play Music to focus on YouTube Music, but is it actually better?

The Music

I personally have never not found a song I wanted, even old Disney songs.

Playlists

As par for streaming services, it makes playlists of new songs based on the songs you listen to. It also makes playlists of songs that it identifies as your favorites, and also has a list of songs on the top that are your favorites. You can select playlists from working out, commutes, time of day, basically everything.

Browsing

The thing that I loved the most about YT music is that it actually lets me browse through and play songs that I want to, not just playlists! Pandora and Play Music are infamous for not letting free users play songs they want to, just playlists built by the site. It can be very frustrating, and YT music simply lets you play the songs you want. You can save songs to your library, add them to playlists, and add them to your queue.

Premium

The thing I found the most annoying is that if you use the app the music stops playing if you leave the app. With premium, which is priced more or less fairly in my opinion, this does not happen, plus it will download a bunch of songs that you like or it thinks you might like to listen to offline while you sleep, so when you are on a trip it's ready to go. You can also set music as your ringtone with premium which I thought was pretty cool.
