Clarence Thomas graduated with a law degree from Yale, and after working for a few years as a lawyer moved to Washington D.C. to begin his political career working for a senator. Conservative black people were looked down upon and essentially treated as outcasts by other black people. The democratic party had become a sort of default, and usually, nobody took the time to question it. Eventually, Thomas was appointed as the chairman of EEOC, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Thomas held this job for years, and under his direction the commission was able to get back onto it's feet.
