Yesterday's sermon was preached by Pastor Engelsma at Covenant URC. The text was Genesis 3:17. This passage relates the story of the first instance of murder in human history. Cain and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve, both offered sacrifices to God. However, for unknown reasons, God found Cain's sacrifice unacceptable and Abel's sacrifice pleasing. In a rage, Cain killed Abel, and as punishment, God exiled him from wherever humanity, presumably Adam and Eve's children and their grandchildren, was settled at the time. This passage taches us several things, but foremost is to remember that if we are not killing sin, it will kill us.
