The first and most obvious other factor is age. Children, prisoners, and soldiers do not count as unemployed or unemployed. Also, people that have retired do not count as unemployed. Another factor is gender. As the economy switches from manufacturing, a field that employed mostly men, and towards services like healthcare that employ more women, more men are becoming unemployed and women employed. Still, it is more likely for a man to be employed then a women, but it still affects the unemployment rate.
