The Incomprehensibility of God

Dr. Barth, on being asked on what was the most profound truth of the Bible, replied with the famous line from the even more famous hymn, "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so." This reveals the truth that even the simplest Christian concept is profound. No matter how much time we spend studying the Bible and theology we will never be able to understand God. Not until we reach Heaven can we do that. This does not mean that we know nothing about God, it means that our knowledge is limited, and the only way to fully discover him is to enjoy eternal life with him.
