Outlines of Church History
After Cromwell had done all he could for the Church, which was more of a sword in the back then a helping hand, he died. James II ascended to the throne. He swore to uphold the National Church, but soon he was introducing all sorts of Roman Catholic doctrines and stuff. When a few bishops protested, they were jailed, but when lords and commoners alike swarmed at their trial ready to storm the bench if they were condemned they were let off the hook. When Queen Anne came to the throne, the Church was in a state of decay. The pews were empty. Queen Anne did add the tithes that had gone to the state to a fund for the poor. So, the Church is pretty much dying, but if we remember our Scripture, it may decay, but it will die.
