Outlines of Church History

Over time, the Church became even more corrupted. People were so used to bowing and getting help from Rome, that they began to turn towards the Bishop of Rome to lead them and give them support. Over time he became known as the Pope. The Roman Emperors, likely in an attempt to regain their crumbling empire, encouraged this doctrine. The MOnastic ORders began to rise, leading to the thought that if you isolated yourself from Civilization you would become Holy, but as we see now these Monasteries became very worldly. How could a Church, so corrupted, ever be remade?
